Daisy

My husband kept bugging me to get a dog. I'd never had animals as a kid growing up so I never knew the joy they could bring into a home. It was over one week end when my husband was out of town that an email came to me from a friend of a friend about a dog that needed a home. I looked longingly at the photo of this dog and immediately thought 'she looks like a Daisy.' Never once did I think, 'Oh my gosh, that's a Pitbull!!' I phoned my friend to get more information on the dog and then I phoned her again to have her come with me to the animal hospital where the dog was kept after being found wandering the streets of a small town in Arizona. My friend is versed in 'dog', has three dogs at home and knew more about dogs than I sure did at the time.

Saturday morning rolled around, she and I went down to the animal hospital to check out the dog. We walked in the back where the kennels are and they had had to jeri rig the lock shut because this dog figured out how to open the lock on the kennel and was found wandering around and saying hello to all of the other animals. This dog was very excited to see people and was jumping up and down with elation. We took her outside to walk her around and she how she acted towards me. My friend told me that I had to take this dog home, otherwise she would have to take this dog home and her husband would not be happy about having four dogs at home. I looked at the dog, she looked up at me and just melted my heart. We put her in the back of my SUV and off we went to buy pet supplies.

Later that day, I went to another friend's house (with a big yard) for an afternoon barbeque and brought Daisy along with me. There were other dogs out romping around and she was having so much fun being free and playing with other pups. She would always come back and find me, make sure I was still there, and then go back and play. Everyone at the party was really taken with Daisy and asked how long I'd had her. I told him, "Oh, about two hours." Finally at the end of the evening, we were all sitting out on the patio, and Daisy laid there, sprawled out on my feet, happy as she could be.

The only thing left was to meet my husband who had been on a trip. We anxiously sat outside on our patio waiting for him to come home. And when he did, he came out and saw this dog and it was love at first sight. My husband's aversion to Pitbulls was put to rest as we welcomed Daisy into our family. It will be 5 years this May that we've had her and she's the best dog ever!!
